Weddings in the Sky

This is the same company that made ‘Dinner In the Sky’ famous and now are expanding to include weddings. A very different and certainly unique way to celebrate the beginning of your life together. On a 1,500 square foot platform, the couple and up to 20 guests are strapped in airplane-type seats and suspended 150 feet up in air where the ceremony is performed. ‘Weddings In the Sky’ can be held anywhere as long as there is a clear surface of approx. 1,500 square feet that can be secured and there is no limit to where your imagination can take you – just imagine over the Grand Canyon! And if that isn’t enough for thrill seeking couples, then add a bungee jump off the platform after the ceremony! Couples may opt for a second platform (or even more if required) for entertainment, music or even dinner. Obsession for safety is probably one of the reasons why Dinner in the Sky is now operated in more than 15 countries and got the official authorizations from the most severe countries such as US, Canada, Australia, South-Africa and Weddings In The Sky is coming next year.

Another wedding venue that is popping up more and more is the ‘cavern’ or ‘cave’ wedding. You probably would never have thought a cave would be the perfect location, but you may want re-think this once you consider all that caverns have to offer – a unique natural setting, the romantic intimacy the cave brings and the impressive acoustics of the cathedral high chambers all add to make this a most atmospheric setting.

Skydiving Wedding

all began in 1940 at the World’s Fair in New York City, with the first parachute wedding and since then, many couples have married in the air. This is a real ‘leap of faith’ for the most adventurous couple, just don’t drop the ring! At 14,000 feet you jump together from the plane and hurl towards the earth at 125 miles per hour. Is your adrenaline pumping yet? Couples may opt to have a ceremony on the ground before or after the jump so family and friends can attend or may choose a more intimate setting with a ‘skydiving preacher’ onboard the plane who will perform the ceremony just before you jump.

Bungee Jump Wedding

With all the ‘ups & downs’ that couples come with married life, beginning your life of matrimony while jumping off a bridge or cliff strapped to a bungee cordseems fitting doesn’t it? The ceremony begins on the jump deck 50 metres above the ground with your family and guests present. After you say your vows to each other and the bride is kissed, the couple then bungees off the deck together as husband and wife.

Underwater is another type of destination wedding that is popular with couples ‘taking the plunge’, especially diving fanatics and you can pretty much find this type of wedding all over the world – Thailand, Caribbean, Indonesia, Israel, South America, US just to name a few. How awesome would it be to get married in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef or surrounded by tropical fish and coral in the Maldives? You won’t need the traditional wedding necessities like a gown or veil, but will need scuba gear, a boat and special masks to say your vows. Most companies offering this type of wedding will either include all you need in a package or you will be able to rent them. Although you may think this type of ceremony is for certified divers, most companies will also offer to non-divers and will include some scuba training classes prior to the wedding day.
