Destination Wedding Fashion 2020

When you go abroad to get married, make sure the celebration goes smoothly by matching up your wedding-day outfit with your new environment. Here’s what to look out for when thinking about where you’re going and what to wear.

  1. Tropical Beach Bash

You’re on a tropical beach straight off of a
postcard – the sun is low, the surf is gentle – and
you’re ready to say “I do.” To make sure there are
no hitches while getting hitched, think through
your wedding wardrobe before stepping out
onto the warm sand with a bouquet in hand.
Look for a dress with a tulle skirt so light it will
skim over the beach, and low-heeled sandals
that will stand their ground.

2. Sophisticated Vineyard Soiree

Whether it’s in Napa Valley or Bordeaux, your vineyard
wedding is guaranteed to have vines, wines and
unparalleled views. Add to the vista with a delicate,
off -the-shoulder, mermaid-style gown and low-heeled
satin sandals (ideal for navigating up the aisle and
between rows of pinot gris). Keep wedding-day makeup
pretty and peachy with RMS Beauty’s pure-as-possible
products and a swipe of Stila’s diamond-infused mascara.

3. Countryside Ceilidh

The pipes are calling… and they’re calling you to the rolling
countryside of the British Isles for a Gaelic wedding, complete with
a handfasting ceremony, bagpipe entry, and tartan. To prepare for
a night of traditional jigs and reels, choose a dress without a train to
minimize trip-ups; once the whiskey starts flowing though, all bets are off. Aim for rosy cheeks and soft curls, and you’ll look like you walked right out of an Outlander scene.

4. Winter Wonderland

If you’re headed to a place where winter
rules – with frost on the treetops, a thick
layer of snow on the ground, and a crisp,
cloudless sky – you’ll know just what to
expect from the weather, and can plan your
ceremony, reception, and wedding outfi t
choices accordingly. This pearl-and-Swarovskicrystal-
embellished ballgown with layers of tulle,
textured Chantilly lace and long sleeves would be
ideal in a cold snap.

5. Botanical Garden Party

Whether it’s being held in the outdoor rose garden or in the
rare-orchard atrium, a wedding surrounded by a country’s most
celebrated blooms is bound to be delightful. This delicate,
garden-inspired bridal gown, with its light layer of lace
hand-beaded with garlands of flowers and Swarovski crystals,
fits in with the surrounding florals. To finish off this romantic look,
add simple fl ower-petal stud earrings and a gentle sweep of
dusty-rose highlighter on the cheekbones.

6. Mediterranean Celebration

It would be hard for any bride not to feel like a goddess
feasting at a reception dinner of fresh-that-day seafood
and a medley of local produce with all the people
she loves, while enjoying epic sunset views of the
Mediterranean. Add in a gorgeous ivory-crêpe trumpet
bridal gown with a detachable rhinestone-embellished
chiffon cape, and the style scene gets raised to heroic
Wonder Woman heights.

7. Eco-resort Fete

The lushness of the surroundings, the
smell of pure nature and the sweet
sounds of birds all call for an escape in
an eco-friendly resort in the Caribbean.
Finding a luxe eco-resort on the edge of
the world to hold your nuptials has
a certain down-to-earth appeal (as does
finding a dress to match the outdoorsy
mood). Toronto-based Mikaella Bridal has
designed an off -the-shoulder gown that
is simple yet stunning – especially when
paired with a natural-makeup look and
Birks aquamarine stud earrings.
