Monica’s Tips for Planning a Honeymoon

July 30, 2015 | Tips

Planning your honeymoon should be one of the more exciting tasks on your wedding to-do checklist, but can often become very overwhelming. Read some valuable tips from one of our Destination Vows specialists that will help keep planning stress free and get you excited for your first trip as husband and wife.

  1. Don’t leave your honeymoon for last.
Did you know that on average most honeymoons are booked only four months in advance? Booking your honeymoon with so little time in advance can lead you to pay high prices for air tickets, particularly if you are planning to go overseas. Booking accommodations can also be tricky specially if you are looking for specialty rooms, such as honeymoon suites, ocean view or accessible rooms. My recommendation is to start working on your honeymoon 9 to 10 months in advance.
  2. The cheapest price does not always means that you are getting the best value.
With so many online offerings it is difficult for couples to identify what resort really offers the best value. When looking at a resort try to understand what type of hotel it is (adult only, boutique, eco resort, etc.) and make sure it aligns with what you envision your honeymoon to be. Be clear as to what type of room they are offering for the price and where is located within the resort, what type of food they offer and what are their reservation policies in their specialty restaurants. Make sure you are aware of what is included in the room that way you will be able to budget for those extra expenses that are not included in your original price.
  3. Include a unique activity that you and your partner have never tried before.
Dive in a cenote in Mexico, go snorkeling in Turks and Caicos, feed the monkeys in Thailand, volunteer at a Mayan village in Riviera Maya. Experiencing something together for the first time will be one of the highlights of your vacation and a great start of your new life.
  4. Consider having a honeymoon registry.
Giving this option to your guests will also allow you to earn some cash that you can use towards your dreamed honeymoon. Remember: life is about experiences, not material things. We offer a honeymoon registry to all our couples.
  5. Strongly consider the help of an expert in planning your honeymoon.
A travel expert will not only help you get the best deals but will also be able to recommend you the best option according to your needs and wants. Every year, travel experts spend thousands of dollars visiting different destinations and resorts.
