While many of my destination wedding couples want to share their special day with family and friends, others are looking for nothing more than a small, intimate affair. They wanted something simple and romantic, set in a spectacular tropical paradise. So Marcia and Dale picked the perfect spot – the Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas. A condominium resort spread over 11 acres of exotic gardens on a fine stretch of Kaanapali Beach in Maui. There was only just one hitch – the resort required a minimum number of attendees to host destination weddings and Marcia and Dale, a group of two, didn’t meet the requirement. The resort, however, didn’t want to crush the couple’s dreams of a Maui wedding and recommended they contact Nancy Phelps of “A Beautiful Maui Wedding.” And so Marcia and Dale began their lives together on the shores of Kapalua Beach, exchanging vows in front of Nancy, who planned and photographed their wedding and an unforgettable wedding officiant, who really made the day special. “He was quite the character and we called him a wedding Jack of All Trades” said Marcia. “Not only did he marry us, he also provided the music as I walked down the aisle and blew a conch shell at the end.” When the ceremony was over, it was just a short walk to Merriman’s for a romantic sunset dinner overlooking the beach – an end a perfect day, just the two of them!
