How long have you been planning destination weddings?
Why did you choose to become a Destination Wedding Specialist?
I have been in the wedding industry since 1994 as a Disc Jockey helping couples and their families have fun at their weddings and receptions. Becoming a Destination Wedding Specialist seemed to be a natural extension of that.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
I describe my job as helping people have fun! To me that means giving a couple as stress free a wedding as I possibly can so that all they need to do is show up and have a great time.
Which destination is your favorite and why?
Jamaica. The people there are so amazingly friendly. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and they’ll even tell you. No problem, Mon! It’s also a great value and there is very little language barrier as just about everyone speaks English.
Do you have a wedding story you would like to share with us?
We had a recent wedding scheduled for a couple from Newfoundland that was getting married in Orlando. What started as a simple, elegant event turned into 2 weddings. The bride’s brother was dating the groom’s sister and a couple of months before the wedding, they decided to tie the knot as well. One bride got married in the morning, the other in the afternoon and they had a joint reception after the second ceremony. For them, it made sense since each wedding would have had the same guests individually anyway!
Do you have a quick tip for us?
Make sure you give yourself enough time to plan your dream wedding. This will make sure the options and special touches are still available and you will be able to actually enjoy being engaged rather than “just throwing it all together”.
